It all began with the recipe for homemade laundry soap. Now I have added a more delicate soap mix to my laundry supply. Same recipe, different bar soap.
Ingredients:
1 bar castille soap (I found it in the beauty aisle at my local grocer for less than $1)
1 cup washing soda
1 cup borax
1/2 cup Oxy Clean (Optional)
Grate soap with cheese grater or food processor.
I grate mine then pulse it in the blender to transform the little cheese-esque curls into granules. 
Add all ingredients to container, secure lid, and shake.Use 1 Tablespoon per medium load, and 2 Tablespoons for large or heavily soiled loads.
*Tip* A coffee scoop equals 2 Tbs. I rarely run small loads, so using one scoop to measure my soap is very convenient, plus the shorter handle fits better in my soap jar than a regular measuring spoon.
To make the regular soap, use the Fels Naptha laundry soap instead of castile soap. Fels Naptha is also an effective pre-treatment when rubbed directly onto wet stains.
Are you supposed to dry the soap out in the microwave first?
ReplyDeleteSince people melt the soap in hot water to make a liquid version, I would not try putting it in the microwave. I have heard people prefer to put their soap in the freezer before grating it, though.
